July 22, 2002 - Princeton, NJ -- SES AMERICOM announced today that Home
Box Office has signed a multi-transponder service agreement to begin
using AMC-4 at 101º W.L. in January, 2003. HBO will use AMC-4 to
continue its distribution of four analog multiplex feeds -- HBO2 East
and West, HBO Signature East, and MoreMAX East -- to HBOs TVRO C-Band
subscribers.
We are delighted that HBO has chosen AMC-4 for its distribution
capacity to meet the needs of their C-Band TVRO subscribers for these
multiplex feeds, said Carl Capista, Vice President Satellite Services
North America. From its center-of-the-arc orbital position, AMC-4
offers HBO excellent look angles for distribution into backyard dishes
in all 50 states.
We are pleased to be able to use AMC-4 to continue our distribution of
these four analog multiplex feeds to the backyard dish community
nationwide, said Barbara Jaffe, Senior Vice President, Network
Operations for HBO. This transition will provide continuity of service
to our C-Band TVRO subscribers as we migrate these feeds from the
current location on Galaxy III-R at 95º W.L. to the AMC-4 satellite at
101º W.L. in January. Our primary analog feeds (HBO East and West and
Cinemax East and West) will remain in their current locations at 125º
and 133º W.L.
AMC-4, SES AMERICOMs fourth A2100 hybrid C/Ku-band satellite, is
located at 101º W.L. providing high-powered coverage to North, Central,
and South America, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. AMC-4 has
twenty-four 36 MHz C-band transponders expending 20 watts. The C-band
coverage stretches from Canada down to the Caribbean. The spacecraft
also features twenty-four 36 MHz and four 72 MHz Ku-band transponders
with 110-watt TWTAs that fully support two-way communications. AMC-4
meets the distribution needs for broadcasting, VSAT, business
television, cable, and broadband Internet market segments. The satellite
was launched on November 13, 1999, providing coverage and exceptional
reliability for an expected life of over 15 years.
